It's finally that time of year again! A few quick notes before we get started...
- There 100% is an edge in NFL preseason DFS if you take the time to research and keep up on the late breaking inactives, these articles will be a guide to constructing your rosters and i will update them to the best of my ability. Remember to check back a half hour before lock to assure i haven't made a key update!
- Lots of questions coming in about what you are looking for in players etc. Obviously volume is king here in preseason but you also need to know exactly how to judge the volume. One whole half of a guy playing with fourth stringers is not going to be as good as a guy playing a quarter with second stringers IN MOST CASES. It's really slate dependent and early on in the preseason the edge is incredible due to the amount of guys playing that the average fans have literally never heard of.
- Scoring in Preseason DFS is WAY SOFTER than regular season. You are literally hunting for 2-3x from your players and it will be extremely low scoring.
With that being said let's get on with the show! Keep in mind the options listed below are NOT in order, I'm just highlighting the plays that I am on the most.
Jimmy Garappolo- Jimmy G should be pretty chalky, but for good reason. The Patriots plan to play their starters this week (via Jeff Howe) but I don't see how or why they play very much. Garappolo will come in after Brady exits (if he even really plays) and will get at least the rest of the first half with upside for more. He was great last week and last preseason too. He's one of the top options tonight.
Alex Smith- Up there with Garappolo for one of the top QB options. It's been confirmed the Chiefs starters will play the entire first half. One half of starters is way better than a half of a backup QB. Don't get cute!
Deshaun Watson- The highly touted rookie finally took some first team reps this week and the Texans can only hide him behind Tom Savage for so long. He looked pretty good in his debut and has rushing upside as well. If we get news he will play close to two quarters he can get bumped up.
Mitchell Trubisky- Trubisky also looked great in his first taste of NFL action. He threw for 166 yards and a touchdown and should see the entire second half for the Bears tonight. Mike Glennon and Mark Sanchez should split the first half and that will leave Trubisky to soak up the second half. The reason I like this so much is he will be seeing third stringers and obviously this is. high draft pick so he will actually be throwing the ball. He's. solid option tonight and should also go over-looked.
Derek Carr- Should play around 30 snaps tonight and he obviously is better than a lot of these guys we are thinking about taking. Seems like the Oakland starters would have a good shot to score at least once.
UPDATE: Forgot to include Paxton Lynch here, he is going to play A TON and is firmly in play.
Andre Ellington- Ellington needs to continue his big preseason to solidify a spot on the Cardinals roster. They've been throwing to him a good bit in addition to his rushing attempts and he's actually looked really good. He's the Cardinals running back to own tonight.
Alfred Morris- I love him on Draftkings where you get a full point for a reception. It doesn't look like Zeke will even play this preseason and he should split the first half of the game with McFadden.
Spencer Ware- Scored a touchdown last week and should play the first half with the starters.
Dion Lewis- A ton of people got burned by Rex Burkhead last week and we saw Lewis play 23 snaps. I think that Lewis is being auditioned for a trade because they want to keep Rex and he should see more work tonight. He's also great in the passing game which is a nice bonus.
Marlon Mack- He missed last game but is expected to play tonight. The Colts are very thin at running back and if we get word he is playing he should be featured. If he is out we can look at Troymaine Pope to get a lot of run like he did against DET.
DeAndre Washington- He should play "into the second quarter" like Del Rio said the Oakland starters will. He will split time with Richard because I highly doubt Marshawn Lynch is going to play in a preseason game but Washington is the guy you want. He's explosive and can catch passes.
Benny Cunningham- He lead the Bears running backs in snaps last week and Langford/Howard are both out again. He should see a similar workload and maybe even more this week. I think he will go over-looked as well, though a lot of guys will with the slate being so big.
UPDATE: Downgrade Dion Lewis based off news that Rex will likely start. too risky there. and Joe Mixon is a strong play that I didn't previously include.
Tyreek Hill- See above-- Chiefs starters playing a half? Oh yeah. Freak only needs one play to pay off and with no Maclin that means more opportunity.
Kenny Golladay/Jace Billingsley- Golladay will probably be the chalkiest player on the entire slate after he came out caught two touchdown in his NFL debut. Dubbed "Babytron" by Evan Silva it will be hard to fade him tonight. Golladay's teammate Jace Billingsley crushed last preseason and caught two balls for 30 yards in their opener. He will be low owned and makes for a tournament option.
Aldrick Robinson- True preseason GOAT. All that needs to be said.
Austin Carr- Another piece to the Patriots onslaught that will ensue tonight. He played almost 70% of all the Patriots snaps last week and caught a touchdown from Garroppolo.
Dez Bryant- Bryant was quoted saying he was "excited" to come out and play in this game tonight. Dak should see a few series and has reportedly spent a good amount of time working on his deep ball this offseason. It's risky because he is only going to play two or three series but he only needs one play to break a big one.
Jeff Janis- Another one of our preseason GOATs. He caught a TD last week and Hundley always seems to look his way. Keep in mind he needs a big preseason to stay on the roster.
Jordan Taylor- Has a rapport with Paxton Lynch who will play a ton in this game. He caught a long TD last year and he has the big play upside.
Austin Seferian-Jenkins- Played into the fourth quarter last week and was open often it just didn't go his way. People will be hesitant to play him after the disappointing first week.
Jacob Hollister- The Patriots are really becoming famous for elite preseason tight ends. 117 yards on 7 receptions is insane and he seems to have a good rapport with Jimmy G. One of the top tight end plays.
Michael Roberts- Missed practice some this week but if he plays he should crush because the Lions are SUPER short at tight end. Remember to check back for an update.
Lions, Broncos, Chiefs or Cowboys.
UPDATE: Lots of Broncos starters sitting on defense. cross them off
