San Diego Padres
Luis Perdomo (+105)
This is an interesting matchup tonight. Luis Perdomo has thrown well on the road this season, posting a 1-1 record with a 2.57 ERA through six road games (four starts). He’s expected to throw a few innings, leaving the remainder of the game to the San Diego Padres bullpen. Most importantly, they get a matchup against the San Francisco Giants, who own a 1-5 record, while averaging 3.0 runs per game over the last week. Casey Kelly has thrown well through six games (two starts), recording an 0-2 record with a 2.89 ERA. He also owns a 4.59 xFIP and a 4.40 SIERA this season, though, suggesting he could see regression in this start. San Diego hasn’t featured the best offense in the MLB over the last week, but they do own a 3-3 record, while averaging 4.0 runs per game over that span.

Atlanta Braves/New York Mets
Sean Newcomb (+155)
Jacob deGrom (-175)
Jacob deGrom has been the best pitcher in the MLB this season. He owns a 9-9 record with a 1.77 ERA through 31 starts. He has also been throwing at an even higher level over his last 10 starts. He gets a matchup against the Atlanta Braves, who have been playing at a high level recently. With that being said, deGrom has allowed only four earned runs over 33 innings against Atlanta this season. On the other side, Sean Newcomb has been struggling recently, posting a 5.06 ERA over his last 10 starts. He does own a 1.39 ERA against the New York Mets through two matchups this season, as well. While his recent struggles are a concern, New York is averaging only 3.3 runs per game over the last week.

Chris Devenski (+115)
I’m going to the early slate for this bet because it’s a bit too good to pass up. Chris Devenski will draw the start for the Houston Astros, but this will be a bullpen game. Devenski has struggled a bit this season, but he’ll only throw a couple of innings, and Houston owns the best bullpen in the MLB. He also gets a matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays, who own a 2-5 record, while averaging 3.4 runs per game over the last week. Houston’s offense has been playing at a higher level recently, posting a 5-1 record, while averaging 6.0 runs per game over the same span. They also get a Sean Reid-Foley, who has struggled with a 2-4 record and a 5.40 ERA through six starts. This simply isn’t a situation in which Houston should be an underdog.
